Have you ever had a Disney Magical Moment happen to you?
We have and I have to say it was one of the highlights of this vacation, probably the best highlight to any vacation! On July 27, 2019, we were walking around Epcot and decided to stop in the DVC lounge to take a quick break from the heat. (The DVC lounge is for DVC members and it is a great place to relax and recharge not only yourself but your phone too. They pass around snacks and you can grab a drink.) As we were sitting there, I noticed a bunch of cast members and then I saw Ryan March (editor of Disney Files magazine, a DVC magazine) and I knew that something great was about to happen! So, I asked a cast member walking by what was going on and she said if you have a few moments you should stand on that line, pointing to a line of 3 kids. Thinking nothing of it I stood on the line, as I was waiting the cast members were setting up an easel and a chair and out walked Stacia Martin. Stacia Martin is a Disney artist and historian who works in California. She has worked for Disney for over 40 years! Her resume is spectacular; however, it is her knowledge, passion and love for Disney is what impressed me most.
Stacia was at Disney World for some work events and had a few hours off, as I recall her telling me the story that she had some free time and said, “do you want to do something fun”? Stacia was at the DVC lounge to draw Disney characters for guests. I snapped a few photos of other drawings as she was working on them. These one-of-a-kind drawings were yours to keep when she was finished. While the drawings were wonderful, getting to listen to Stacia’s speak about all things Disney was the real gift. When she asked us who we wanted her to draw I asked for my favorite character Belle from Beauty and the Beast. She drew it flawlessly often not even looking at the sketch while she spoke.
The rest of the day we spoke about Stacia and how great it was to meet her, that we received an original personalized drawing just for us. Talk about being in the right place at the right time. Never did we guess that two days later we would see her again. As we were waiting in the lobby of the Hall of Presidents and we noticed Stacia walking around taking in all the displays. I was very nervous to bother her, but I finally got up the courage to introduce myself again. I am so glad I did because Stacia could not have been more open to talking with me again. She even asked us if we wanted to sit together during the show. She said it would be great to "sit with people I know". She is such a kind person that she considered us people she knows after meeting only one time. Stacia had tons of knowledge about the history of the hall of presidents and she loved telling us every bit of it. After the show we continued our conversation outside and took some pictures with Stacia. I truly hope she realized how appreciative we were to be able to speak to someone who has dedicated her life to Disney and all its fans. This was a once in a lifetime experience and it was truly MAGICAL!
